Unforgiveness. I just heard this put in another way. Even if you die in this sin, for not forgiving those who have caused you pain, in whatever form they caused it, then Jesus won’t forgive you of your sins either, and if He doesn’t forgive you, it will keep you from Heaven. It will not only lead you to your physical death but your spiritual death as well. Forgiveness is not for the person who caused you harm. It doesn’t mean they are free and clear. It means you have released the choke hold around their neck and you’ve decided to allow God to take His vengeance and to make things right. Think about what our sins did to Jesus. He took our punishment on Himself and suffered and died for us to keep us from Hell. God doesn’t want a bunch of people who have any animosity in their hearts in His home. That kind of poison only hurts you in the long run. Forgiveness also doesn’t mean to hang out with your enemies. Sometimes there is no restoration and that part is okay. Unforgiveness causes bad feelings, bad thoughts and sometimes the combination of the two causes bad actions and bad intent. Do you see how it grows into something demonic? In Romans 12:20-21 it says: Therefore, if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. Be not overcome of evil but overcome evil with good.”
There’s been many times I’ve had to envision that actual scripture happening to my enemies to get me through the prayer for them. But then one day I didn’t have to imagine that anymore, because in praying for them, it healed me. It healed the pain, the anger, the animosity. After I got healed, I was able to see with my spiritual eyes that my enemies had demons in them to get them do what they did. I no longer had anger for them but pity. Because I know in my heart that if they don’t repent, change their ways, try to make their wrongs right for God, and accept Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior then they won’t go to Heaven when they die. They will go to Hell and be tortured forever. And I don’t want that for anyone, not even my worst enemy.
If you need help in this area, ask God to help you. Ask Him to give you the desire to do His will in this. Ask Him to help you see it the way He sees it. Ask Him to give you the strength and courage to forgive. Ask Him to help you do what feels hard and impossible to do in this and He will. Do it for you because you deserve to be released from the pain, from the torment, from living that hell every day. You deserve freedom. You think your anger is punishing them? No. It’s probably what they want because they don’t want to be forgotten. Even bad attention is still some attention for them. And sometimes they count on it, and they get their thrills in it. Don’t give them satisfaction any longer. Break those chains and free yourself in it. Free yourself from them. Trust Jesus in this. I promise you that you won’t be disappointed.
